Qifeng Shoes Machine-Let’s share a news from MANILA, Philippines - To promote its shoe industry, the city government of Marikina formally opened on Monday its three-and-a-half month celebration of the Sapatos Festival 2012.
Marikina Mayor Del de Guzman led the opening ceremony held during the city hall flag-raising ceremony when Patio Del Zapateros, (formerly Ava and Eve Store located on J.P. Rizal St., Barangay San Roque) was opened to the public following a short program.
This year's Sapatos Festival 2012 with the theme "Walk this way!" Gawang Marikina, Gawang Kinikilala, aims to revitalize Marikina's shoe industry and give recognition to Marikina-made shoes whose craftsmanship and quality account for the city being called the Shoe Capital of the Philippines. For this year, the celebration starts on September 10 to December 31 with lots of activities and events related to the shoe industry.
"Through the annual Sapatos Festival, we are empowering the shoe industry and workers in the city and at the same time, helping our shoemakers promote their quality-made shoes," De Guzman said.
One of the highlights of the Sapatos Festival is the Shoe Caravan to reawaken other cities' consciousness about Marikina being the Shoe Capital of the Philippines as well as to promote and showcase Marikina-made shoes. The Shoe Caravan will visit cities in Metro Manila at scheduled dates from October 1 to November 9. Quality yet reasonably priced Marikina-made shoes will also be sold at the City Hall Quadrangle from October 1 to November 16.
Shoes were on display yesterday at Patio Del Zapateros (Courtyard of the shoemakers) in Barangay San Roque until December 31, 2012.
Other events include Weekend Jammingan, Feast of St. Crispin, Shoe-Per Star, Tap Dance, Shadow Dance Play, Shoe-gala, Fashion Shoe, Tour de Takong (a.k.a Stiletto Race), Gabi ng Parangal para sa Industriya ng Sapatos, Konsyerto sa Plaza with 6Cycle Mind, and Marikina-wide Bike Festival.
